What is a Mediterranean diet?

The Mediterranean diet is a type of diet that is followed in countries around the Mediterranean, such as in Italy, Spain, Greece, France and Morocco. Although


Mediterranean diets can vary from place to place it often includes the following foods:

  • vegetables and fruit

  • nuts, seeds and olives;

  • wholegrain products;

  • pulses (dried beans, peas and lentils);

  • fish and seafood;

  • poultry-meat and eggs;

  • small amounts of red meat;

  • oil as the main source of fat;

  • dairy products (especially low-fat);

  • red dry wine together with meal used in low or moderate amounts can be part of Mediterranean diet.

Remember that the Mediterranean diet is very rich in omega-3, with little highly processed foods, lots of whole foods, limited use of salt and sugar, replaced by spices and herbs.


Of course, the menu is very tasty and flavourful, as spices play an important role in Mediterranean cuisine.
